CLUB SEASON SQUADS
CLUBBIES: Train, race, socialise!
Westies’ Clubbies Squad is a mixed squad for rowers of all experiences, ages and competition levels. Clubbies train on the water 3 mornings per week, with an additional optional ergo session, under the guidance of our most helpful coaches. Clubbies compete mostly in C and D grade, racing in 1x, 2x/2-, 4x+/4+ and 8+ boat categories.
Rowers can mark down their training availability to allow crews to be organised by our coaching team. Attendance is strongly encouraged, but don’t worry - we understand life can get in the way!
Some prior rowing experience, or completion of a Learn to Row course at any rowing club, is essential.
WINTER HP: A/B Grade competition and progression towards Summer HP
Our Winter High Performance Squad is our pathway for all male and female athletes who are targeting higher levels of rowing; be it racing at the National Championships, State representation, achieving a training agreement at WAIS, or going to selections for National Teams. This squad makes up our A & B grade crews at winter Club Pennant regattas and is managed by our full-time HP Coach.

JUNIOR SQUAD: Individualised coaching & learning what club is all about!
Westies’ Junior Squad caters for school-age male and female athletes. Our leadership group and team of experienced coaches aim to help junior athletes work towards their personal goals, whatever they may be.
We aim to get our Junior Squad on water twice a week plus one land session. There are options for additional training and top juniors may be invited to sessions with our HP squad.
Junior Squad athletes are able to compete in both All Schools and Club Pennant regattas where school sport fixtures allow.
SUMMER SEASON SQUADS
SUMMER HP - Pathway to State and National representation
As a WAIS Pathway Partner Club, Westies is proud to support striving athletes to achieve representation at State and National levels. WARC is proud to be the home club of several recent Olympians and Australian representatives.
Under the guidance of our Head Coach John Gearing & Assistant Coach Jack O’Dea, athletes compete in State and National selection regattas and develop the skills required to train with WAIS or the National Training Centre (NTC).
CASUAL SUMMER ROWING - Social rowing for all experience levels
Westies’ Casual Summer Rowing (CSR) squad runs from October-April during our summer off-season. All club members are welcome to attend CSR sessions. We also offer a standalone summer membership for rowers who do not plan to row the club season.
CSR rowers may attend whichever sessions they like, no notice required, with coaches organising crews on the morning of the session. Sessions are social and technique-focused, and sticking around for coffee is strongly encouraged!
