Lord Mayor's Cup
Every
year around March/April, Westies runs a competitive corporate rowing
regatta on the Swan River, which is the only rowing regatta held in
Perth's central business district.
For 2010, the Lord Mayor's Cup will celebrate its 21st anniversary and we're already set for a massive event!
Almost 40 corporate crews will undergo five weeks of training to compete over 500m on the day, and the regatta has proven to be a lot of fun as well as a great team-building exercise.
Rowers not only compete in the relevent grade (male, female, novice and mixed) but can choose to challenge other crews and have the opportunity to pit their strength against others in one-on-one dry racing on rowing machines.
The prizes are great, the event is fun and ultimately it goes towards supporting Western Australia's longest-standing competitive rowing club.
The West Australian Rowing Club (aka Westies) is proud to be able to share the camaraderie and tradition of rowing with the wider community, in particular those companies that participate in the Lord Mayor’s Cup Corporate Rowing Regatta. Many companies use this event as a regular component of their Staff Wellbeing programmes and enter multiple crews (and the competition between them is often fierce!). It is not uncommon for participants to ‘catch the bug’ and continue rowing at Westies.
